Meet Dublin Dog Ambassador Nick Gottleib and his beautiful black lab, Jackie. Nick is an avid backcountry skier and Jackie is his ideal partner in “unleashed adventure”. He sent us a blog about skiing with Jackie along with some killer photos. As hot as it is out there, this should be a great story to cool off with!
Vermont is a beautiful place and something of a mecca for outdoor sports, but it can be frustratingly hard to find adventure partners, particularly with backcountry skiing. On the rare occasions when you run into someone else, miles from a road in the Green Mountain National Forest, their first words usually aren't, “Hey! How's it going? Let's exchange numbers so we can ski together next time.” The typical response generally more along the lines of, “How did you find out about this area?” “Don't bring anyone here.” Or if they're in a particularly good mood, they'll offer some beta on where the “best” skiing is and hope you don't follow them.
Not especially conducive to making new friends who enjoy the outdoors.
Fortunately for me, I have had a reliable ski partner for six years now. Jackie lives for winter, and the mere mention of skiing will get her so excited that she refuses to sit down for the car ride.
