  • Kuranda Beds Reviewed

Posted on 2 July 2012 by Jason

As part of growing our blog community, Dublin Dog Co will start to test and review products submitted from our fan base. Our goal is share great products, be those for humans or for our dogs that we may all benefit from. First on the list is one that I have personally been trying over the last 3-4 months, the Kuranda Dog Bed. As many of you know, I'm the proud owner of a 65lb female German Shepherd Dog, "Kona" as well as an 85lb lab mix named "Jake" (the profile for our logo). Both dogs have started to crest the proverbial "hill" into old age with Kona being 9 and Jake being 10. As with many GSD's, Kona experiences some hip and joint issues, yet she is still as spry and puppy-like when it comes to chasing sticks and running after bunnies. However her recovery can take longer after extended days of play and romping.

Jake on the other hand has what I like to refer to as a sprinkle problem. That's right, he's a leaker. It appears in his older age he has become incontinent. While we have him on an aggressive regimen of Proin 3x a day, the positive effects are starting to wane. The result is the frustrating and disconcerting reality that he leaks all over his bed, our oriental rugs, the hardwoods, and everywhere else he decides to rest. While we certainly don't blame him for his malady, there is no getting around the constant struggle to keep the house clean, Jake clean, and mopping up everywhere he goes. While "male wraps" have been employed, we hate to have that on him all the time. And his bed, oh dear heavens. It was becoming a sponge for odor and urine, as even his wrap would eventually bleed through.

Welome the Kuranda Bed. These beds offer both orthopedic comfort for the dog by keeping them elevated off the ground through a supportive woven fabric that is supported by an indestructible PVC pipe frame that comes in both Almond and Walnut, or aluminum  if you so desire. There other benefit of these beds are the fact that they breathe, in that they allow air to flow through the material based on which material you choose from their selection of 40 oz. Vinyl, Ballistic Nylon, Cordura, or a vinyl weave all in a variety of colors. We chose the vinyl weave as it allows for the most air flow and is extremely easy to clean with a hose. While it can't cure Jake's incontinence, it does allow for a more sanitary environment while also doing wonderful things for his joints.

While they did not initially take to sleeping in the beds for long periods, they have grown to really enjoy them. There are also fleece covers that you can purchase for the beds (think pillow top) to make them even more comfortable. These are a great option for dog owners who would like an alternative to traditional mattress style beds, or who may have dogs with joint problems, allergies, or incontinence. We're big fans of these beds and this company as they do a lot for shelters and rescues as well. Kudos to Kuranda!

  • Mickey & his Amazing Roxxter

Posted on 27 February 2012 by Jason

Check out Mickey with his Roxxter from Dublin Dog Co. The more videos we get on this, the more we find that dogs just go nuts for the wild action of this toy. They are a lot of fun, both with & without treats. We especially love the ending of this video where Mickey shows off his skills. Great fan contribution, we love it, and of course we love Mickey!

  • 'Tis the Season

Posted on 10 November 2011 by Jason

Dublin Dog Co has just released our newest member to the Original All Style, No Stink family, and she packs a punch, a Poinsettia Punch that is. Modeled after our best selling collection, the Daisy Daze, our Poinsettia Punch features our brand new E3 formulation (Extreme Element Elastomers) with a color palette that just looks festive. The white background looks like crisp white snow, while the poinsettias seem to float right off the collar with their dimensional design. Even though the design features Poinsettias, they're abstract enough to work for both male or female dogs.  However, for those men who are a little scared of the flower power, Dublin Dog has released a brand new Simply Solid color way featuring traditional Red & Green, the hallmark color of the holidays. Whichever model you choose, any recipient will be overjoyed to be on your shopping list this season.

  • Fido Friendly Reviews the "Roxxter"

Posted on 25 October 2011 by Jason

Two cockers plus one sunny afternoon and a big back yard. The ball has been played with, the pool sits silent, the two cocker buddies await their next move. Enter the Roxxter.

Roxxter is a fun toy for dogs from the Dublin Dog Company. Made in the USA, it is designed to make Fido think, try to dispense the treats and have a rolling good, intellectually stimulating time doing so.

Our trusty testers went tally ho and em”barked” (pun intended) on the Roxxter toys. We filled them with a few of their favorite treats and made certain the treats would not get stuck inside. The idea is to have the dog toss the toy around, get the treats out, and in the meantime, get a pretty fun cerebral workout doing so. Double cockers, double fun, two Roxxters and a yummy vanilla scent provided a half hour of giggles to the human pet parents. Supervision is recommended with this and any toy so Fido does not chew through it. However, the super tough material of the Roxxter did not get damaged by the cockers. Actually, after the treats were dispensed, these two buds decided to flip the toy in the air (no doubt, looking for more goodies).

The Roxxter is available and a variety of stores and online. Check out the Dublin Dog Company website at Dublin Dog Company. They retail at about 13.95 and wash clean quite easily; available in a variety of colors.
Note: We accept no monetary compensation for reviews. Review is NOT sponsored Dublin Dog Co and is the sole opinion of the reviewer for FIDO Friendly magazine. We welcome your feedback and comments.

  • The brand new All Style, No Stink collars are available for order

Posted on 8 July 2011 by Jason

The long wait is now over! After 4 years of watching the original all style, no stink collar grow, both in popularity and in pure scope we have learned a lot. We are grateful to our customers and critics alike, who remind us that we too can't rely on luck alone to make our products better. Every version of the original All Style, No Stink dog collar has taught us invaluable lessons about what makes a product more than just a commodity. It has to do with safety, reliability, design, and an unspoken agreement of trust with the company behind the product. So with that, we feel we have answered the most pressing desires of our customers and of our own goals for the collar. Featuring completely new hardware, new tooling, new materials including our extreme element elastomers (E3) that has made our collars, softer, stronger, and lighter than ever before; and did I mention made in the USA? So thank you for your patience and we hope that you agree with us, that the wait was well worth it.

  • Where did all the collars go?

Posted on 30 June 2011 by Jason

As many of you have noticed we are currently out of stock of 90% of the Original All Style, No Stink dog collars? "What's the deal with that?" you say. Well, unless your dog has drug you into the closet or buried you in the backyard you've probably heard a little something about Dublin Dog Co now producing our world renowned collars in the USA. That's right, starting the first full week of July, we'll begin selling our newest version of our versatile All Style, No Stink collars. However, while we've been in production with our new E3 formulation (see blog below), new tooling, and new hardware, we had to deplete our existing stock without manufacturing new inventory from our former factory, using our previous methods. Our success has been predicated on "going for it", taking chances where others were afraid to go. The result; a really good product that makes a lot of sense. However, through your feedback, comments, and wonderful stories, we've found ways to correct our mistakes, improve where we could, and make some advancements. The result is a brand new facelift to our tried and true product line. So thank you for your patience and we hope you love what you see, and feel. As a way of saying thank you for reading this blog, enter "blowout" at checkout to receive 50% off your order from June 29th-July 7th, 2011 on whatever Original All Style, No Stink dog collars are left in stock. It never hurts to have a few on standby. (supplies are limited) Lucky day to you and yours.

  • The science of stink

Posted on 3 May 2011 by Jason

You’re at the park, enjoying the sunny afternoon and your four-legged friend is having the time of her life. Then, as if being pulled by some invisible lasso, she makes a b-line to that dark area in the grass over by the tree. Suddenly, she stops, drops and rolls as if trying to put out a small fire set by worker ants (it must be a big fire, cause there's a lot of rollin' taking place). Then just as unexpectedly she trots over to you as if looking for a merit badge for her accomplishment. Then it hits you, like an uppercut to the nose. “The Funk”.

So why do dogs roll in the nasty nectar of dead things, poop, and all things gross? Here’s three explanations:

1)Dog’s use the scent or odor of what we would otherwise find disgusting as a type of perfume for themselves. Many times, we clean our dogs with perfumed soaps and sprays, however that can smell horrible to them. In return, they shop down a slightly different aisle and go for the scent that is most pleasing to them, like the nasty tidbits left laying in the field.

2)The dominant theory is that this is a trait carried over from their wolf ancestry, whereby canines would use these scents to cover up, or disguise their own scent as a way to sneak up on their prey. In some cases, they could almost be invited by their prey to come closer if they chose the most appealing scent.

3)Getting covered and smothered in nasty goodness can also be a way of alerting their pack or pack leader “hey look what I found over here, take a whiff”. It’s a way to communicate that they’ve found the booty, and you’re missing out. No really, you are.

It’s for this reason I created the Original All Style, No Stink dog collar for Dublin Dog Co.. Dogs will be dogs, and that’s why we love them, for all their quarks, traits, and characteristics. But leave the funk in the field and keep your collars clean. Did you know you can put your waterproof ASNS Dublin Dog Collar in the dishwasher? Try it.
